Unlike most years, when people come back to work after the holidays feeling rested and relaxed, the bushfires are causing many people to be tired, tense, anxious, sad, frustrated or angry. Here are three tips to follow to ease your team back into the working world.
1) Show you care by spending time with them as a group and individually. Ask them how they feel and what they need. Get them help if they need it.
2) Help them focus on doing something positive. Donate money as a team or collect physical goods and deliver them to a donation centre together. Have someone in the team look for good news stories to counter all of the bad people will be reading.
3) Shift their focus to work. Giving people a sense of certainty and normality is one of the best things you can do to help people who are stressed by things outside of work, regardless of the type of stress.
