The research shows us that the Future of Work is collaborative, yet the newest generation to enter the workforce, Gen Z, is fiercely competitive. This tension must be resolved in order for businesses to grow through the next decade. Beginning with the WSJ article The End of Management in 2010 business literature has been calling on organisations to strike down the old, hierarchical command and control style and replace it with more collaborative, team-oriented structures. This worked well for Gen Ys and Millennials, but Gen Zs are proving to be quite different than the previous generations. Raised on reality TV they have learned that life is a competition. Resolving this tension will be one of the biggest challenges businesses must grapple with over the next 10 years.
